5/26/2023 0 Comments Colt 1911 serial numbers locationAny ideas out there? I'd be interested in hearing them. The asking price is $2000, and I told the store owner, if authentic, he could probably ask anything he wanted for it. The gun is very suspect and I am not saying it is legitimate, but I cannot see where the serial number has been tampered with nor can I see where anything has been ground off of it anywhere else, although the nickel plating could very well cover up a lot of questionable areas. What are the chances of this being authentic? Does anyone actually know where gun number 3 is currently? Like at the Smithsonian or some place? I would be interested in finding out if anyone does. The number on this particular Colt shows "NO. From my research, M1911's from serial numbers 1 through 50 shipped to Springfield in early 1912. The seller doesn't seem to think it is original, and the entire thing has a horrible nickel finish and some fake pearl grips, but the serial number is STILL 3. A local gun shop here in Louisville, Kentucky that's been around for decades currently has a Colt M1911.
